Product Overview

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1/2 Antibody/Antigen (HIV 1/2 Ab/Ag) Combo Rapid Test is a qualitative in vitro diagnostic device designed for the simultaneous detection of HIV-1 and HIV-2 antibodies and p24 antigen in human whole blood, serum, or plasma samples. This rapid test provides a convenient and efficient method for screening individuals for HIV infection. The test employs immunochromatography technology, delivering results quickly and easily, making it suitable for various settings, including point-of-care and laboratory use. Early detection of HIV infection is crucial for timely initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) and improved patient outcomes. This combo test offers higher sensitivity and specificity compared to antibody-only tests by detecting both antibodies and the p24 antigen, particularly helpful in early stages of infection before substantial antibody production.

Procedure & Interpretation

Step-by-Step Procedure

  1. Collect the sample (whole blood, serum, or plasma).
  2. Apply the sample to the test device.
  3. Add buffer solution as indicated.
  4. Wait 15-20 minutes.
  5. Read and interpret the results.

Result Interpretation

Positive Result
Positive: Two or three colored bands appear (Control, Antibody, and/or Antigen line), indicating the presence of HIV-1/2 antibodies and/or p24 antigen.
Negative Result
Negative: Only one colored band appears (Control line), indicating the absence of HIV-1/2 antibodies and p24 antigen.
Invalid Result
Invalid: No band appears, or only the Antibody/Antigen line appears. The test should be repeated with a new device.

Frequently Asked Questions

The combo test detects both HIV antibodies and the p24 antigen, enabling earlier detection of HIV infection, particularly during the window period before significant antibody production.

No special equipment is required. The test is designed for easy use with minimal training, making it suitable for point-of-care settings.

The combo test offers high sensitivity. However, positive results should be confirmed with more specific lab-based assays like ELISA or Western blot.
